Okay, so today I am fasting before I officially begin the "cleanse" tomorrow. The fast consists of nothing but room temperature water with fresh squeezed lemon until about 6pm. At 6pm a light meal of fruit can be consumed. After that, the cleanse begins with a daily intake of only fresh fruits and vegetables for 7 days (you can go up to 30 days if you want). Vegetables should be raw or lightly steamed. I went food shopping on Monday in preparation for the cleanse. I bought a bunch of berries and bananas to mostly make smoothies with (smoothies are allowed on this cleanse) and green vegetables like kale, romaine lettuce, grape tomatoes cucumbers and red and yellow peppers to make salads with. You can have a light salad dressing like fresh lemon but not a creamy, fat free or any artificial one. Pretty much all fruit and vegetables are allowed except for green peppers which are supposed to be avoided because they haven't reached their ripened stage. I am excited about the cleanse because I know I will eliminate toxins and cravings from my body. I need this! The only deterrent from actively doing the cleanse is that typically you will end up experiencing less energy due to low calorie intake. Working out can be harder and that is why I take a cleansing supportive multi-vitamin and I eat a few almonds and walnuts after working out. I must say though any fats (including nuts and seeds are supposed to be off limits as well as the cleanse supplement), however if you are working out I would recommend a small handful of almonds or walnuts which is about an ounce. This will keep your body fed a small amount of protein. Since it is only 7 days it does not damage the protein levels of my body too much. I am a big protein advocate, so to eliminate proteins for me is a deal breaker. There are small levels of proteins found in vegetables but they don't feed muscle. Protein keeps a body lean and muscular. Anyway, all of this is just the fast before the cleansing storm and I am armed and ready!
